Free at last

There will be another posting tonight that I felt I should write, but first this is the one I really wanted to issue before Passover.

The first sedarim I remember were during the 1960s, towards the end of the great civil rights struggles.  My parents raised the parallels between the Exodus and the struggle by African-Americans for full equality and respect.  No doubt the same comparison was going through the minds of many Jews at the time.  I would hope that we once again commit ourselves to the conviction that the Exodus was not just about us, but that it was the world’s first sign that God wants all people freed from the twin slaveries of oppression and poverty.

Echoing civil rights activities of the time. It is no accident that MLK Jr. was a preacher who used the old bible liberally.
